Fire Alarm Solutions For Your Building

Every building in and around Louisville has its own needs, from older facilities downtown to growing distribution campuses and newer residential communities. We work with a wide range of commercial and residential properties, and our goal is to match the fire alarm scope to how your building is actually used, not just how it looks on paper.

On the commercial side, we often support school systems that must balance life safety requirements with the realities of busy hallways and classrooms. We also work in high-volume distribution centers, where protecting inventory, equipment, and staff calls for reliable detection and minimal downtime. Offices, medical spaces, and multi-tenant buildings have their own patterns of occupancy and access that we keep in mind when planning work.

For residential clients, the priorities can be different but just as important. You might be renovating an older home, finishing a basement, or updating a small multifamily property to align with current expectations. We listen first, then discuss options that fit your layout and budget, while always keeping safety at the center of the conversation.

Some projects involve new construction with plans already prepared, while others require replacing equipment or expanding an existing system. In each case, we coordinate the electrical side of the fire alarm work with the rest of your infrastructure. That coordination helps reduce change orders, surprises, and rework as the project moves forward.

Why Choose Our Louisville Team

When you choose a contractor for fire alarm work, you are not just buying devices and wiring. You are choosing a team whose decisions and habits will show up at every inspection and emergency drill. With more than 43 years in the electrical field, NLMS has seen what works, what fails, and how to complete projects that hold up over time.

Our technicians are NALMCO certified and complete over 20 hours of safety training each year. This commitment to training is not just a line on paper. It shapes how we plan tasks, use equipment, protect your facility, and document our work. You get a crew that understands safe practices around live systems and follows procedures that support reliable fire alarm performance.

We are a woman-owned company with more than four decades of proven performance in this region. That history reflects consistency, accountability, and a long-term presence in the community. Clients value seeing the same level of professionalism across projects, whether we are serving a school district or a homeowner.

Cleanliness and organization are part of our standard, not an add-on. We take pride in leaving every jobsite cleaner than we found it. That means managing dust and debris, protecting finishes, and wrapping up each day so that students, employees, or families can safely use the space. Clear communication is equally important. We keep you informed about scheduling, access needs, and any findings that might affect your timeline or budget.

When you combine long experience, formal certifications, ongoing safety training, and a culture of spotless workmanship, you get a fire alarm installation partner who supports your goals and reduces your stress at every stage.

Our Fire Alarm Installation Process

Understanding how the process works can make planning a fire alarm project feel more manageable. We follow a structured approach that keeps your goals, code requirements, and daily operations in view from beginning to end.

It typically starts with a conversation about your building and your objectives. We review any available plans or existing system information and schedule a site visit when helpful. During this visit, we look at electrical service, pathways for cabling, existing devices, and how people move through the space. You can expect us to ask questions about occupancy, future changes, and any issues you have experienced before.

Once we understand the scope, we coordinate our electrical work with the overall fire alarm design and your other trades. On new builds, this might mean working alongside general contractors, HVAC teams, and low-voltage vendors. In live facilities, we plan phasing and access with your staff to avoid unnecessary disruptions. Our technicians route cable, mount devices, and connect panels with attention to neatness and serviceability.

Safety remains at the center of installation. Our team uses lockout and tagging practices where appropriate, follows ladder and lift safety guidelines, and keeps work areas organized. The same safety training that supports our lighting and electrical projects applies directly to careful fire alarm work in sensitive environments like schools and healthcare facilities.

After installation, we focus on testing and functional checks. We verify that devices are powered and communicating as expected, that notification appliances operate as intended, and that circuits and labeling match the documentation. When required, we coordinate with you and the appropriate authorities for inspections. Our role is to help present work that is clear, orderly, and ready for review.

Throughout the process, we aim to keep you informed. You will know when crews will be on site, what areas they will access, and how our schedule lines up with your internal milestones. That transparency helps you answer questions from tenants, staff, or leadership and keeps the project moving steadily toward completion.

Working With A Local Louisville Partner

Fire alarm work is closely tied to local expectations. Choosing a contractor who understands how projects are handled in Louisville can make your work smoother. We serve this community every day, so we are familiar with the types of buildings, owners, and approval processes that shape fire alarm projects here.

When we plan a job, we keep in mind how your system may be reviewed by local authorities, such as fire prevention staff from the Louisville Fire Department or city building inspections personnel. While the specific steps can vary by project, a clean, well-organized installation and accurate documentation tend to support a more straightforward review.

Scheduling also has a local flavor. School projects often need to be completed during breaks or on tight after-hours windows. Distribution centers near major transportation corridors may require work during lower shipping volumes or off-shifts. Office and mixed-use buildings have their own access rules and quiet hours. Our team plans work around these realities so your operations can continue as smoothly as possible.

Being nearby also matters after the initial installation. When you have questions, need adjustments, or are planning additional phases, it helps to have a local electrical partner who already understands your facility. You are not explaining your building from scratch each time, and we can respond on-site more efficiently than a distant provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a fire alarm installation usually take?

Most fire alarm installations take anywhere from several days to a few weeks, depending on building size, complexity, and whether the space is occupied. During our initial visit, we discuss your scope, look at access and phasing, and then provide a realistic schedule based on what we see.

Can your team work around our operating hours?

Yes, we routinely plan work around school schedules, warehouse shifts, and office hours. We talk with you about your busiest times, noise limits, and access needs, then build a plan that reduces disruption. Our technicians clean up as they go so spaces can be used between visits.

How do you help make sure my system is code compliant?

We bring more than 43 years of electrical experience and ongoing safety training to every project. We coordinate our installation with the approved fire alarm design, follow applicable codes, and keep wiring and labeling clear. Our goal is to present work that supports a smooth review by local inspectors.

Do you handle both small and large fire alarm projects?

We work on a wide range of projects, from updating devices in a single tenant space to supporting fire alarm installations in school systems and distribution centers. During our first discussion, we confirm that your project fits our services and then tailor our approach to your building.

What should I prepare before our site visit?

It helps to gather any existing plans, prior inspection reports, and information about how your building is used. During the visit, we walk the site with you, discuss goals and constraints, and review potential pathways. The more we understand upfront, the more accurate our recommendations will be.

Our FAQ

Find Quick Answers About Our Work and Processes
  • Do we need to have a company representative be present when work is going on?
You do not need to be present when work is completed. We are licensed, bonded, and insured for your protection, and all of our electricians are thoroughly screened and background checked. If you have questions about the work being completed, then we do encourage you to be present at the time the technician arrives. It comes down to your preferences, and we will work with you to accommodate your schedule.
  • How soon can we get scheduled?
We do our very best to try and work within your time frame, allowing for all materials to be received so we can arrive, inspect, and install.
  • Do you offer any warranty on your work?
Yes, NLMS does warranty our labor and materials. Materials come with manufacture warranties. Some manufactures offer a warranty up to 10 years, but most are at least backed by a 5-year limited warranty. NLMS also warranties our craftsmanship. Normal labor warranties are backed by 1 year; however, we believe all issues deserve a full inspection as to why the situation happened and if in any way the issue was installation related, NLMS will be happy to further investigate and work with you on providing a solution. You are in good hands with us, it is our reputation on the line and that cannot be compromised!
  • What are the advantages of LED lighting over Fluorescent or CFL?
Most fluorescent lights and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) contain mercury among other hazardous materials. As such, these lighting products must be disposed of carefully and properly, so that they do not contaminate landfills or cause danger to anyone. Fluorescent lights are also subject to flickering, and some people can be very sensitive to this, and even experience strained eyes, headaches, and even migraines. On the other hand, LED lights utilize solid-state technology, which enables stable dimming without flickering.  Additionally, fluorescent lights can take a significant amount of time to reach their full brightness levels, especially when it is cold. LED lights, on the other hand, turn on instantly in any environment and temperature.
  • What’s better for lighting, incandescent, halogen or LED?
LED lighting is more efficient than incandescent or halogen lighting by approximately 85%, partly because approximately 80-90% of energy emitted from those bulbs gets converted to heat instead of light. Because of this, LED lights do not require nearly as much energy to produce the same amount of light. By design, LED lights will also last about 50x longer than incandescent or halogen lighting.
